The word nature comes from the Latin expression natura, or "essential characteristics, innate disposition", and in ancient times, literally intended "birth". Natura is a Latin translation of the Greek word physis (φύσις), which at first related to the intrinsic characteristics that vegetation, pets or animals, and other top features of the world develop of their own accord. The idea of nature all together, the physical world, is one of several expansions of the original notion; it started with certain central applications of the word φύσις by pre-Socratic philosophers, and has continuously gained currency ever since. Within the various uses of the word today, "nature" often refers to geology and wildlife. Nature can refer to the general world of living vegetation and animals, and in some cases to the functions associated with inanimate objects-the way that one types of things are present and change of their own accord, such as the weather and geology of the planet earth. It is often taken to suggest the "natural environment" or wilderness-wild animals, rocks, forest, and generally those things which may have not been significantly altered by individuals intervention, or which persist despite individual intervention. For instance, manufactured things and human interaction generally aren't considered part of nature, unless trained as, for example, "human nature" or "the complete of nature". This more traditional concept of natural things which can still be found today signifies a distinction between the natural and the manufactured, with the man-made being understood as that which has been brought into being by way of a human awareness or a individual mind. With regards to the particular context, the word "natural" may also be distinguished from the unnatural or the supernatural.
