The word nature comes from the Latin expression natura, or "essential qualities, innate disposition", and in historic times, literally designed "birth". Natura is a Latin translation of the Greek expression physis (φύσις), which actually related to the intrinsic characteristics that plant life, family pets, and other top features of the world develop of their own accord. The concept of nature as a whole, the physical universe, is one of several expansions of the initial notion; it commenced with certain center applications of the term φύσις by pre-Socratic philosophers, and has steadily gained currency ever since. This usage continued during the arrival of modern medical method in the last several centuries.

Within the many uses of the term today, "nature" often refers to geology and animals. Nature can refer to the general world of living plants and pets or animals, and in some instances to the operations associated with inanimate objects-the way that particular types of things can be found and change of their own accord, such as the weather and geology of the planet earth. It is taken to mean the "environment" or wilderness-wild family pets, stones, forest, and generally speaking those things which have not been significantly altered by human being involvement, or which persist despite real human intervention. For instance, manufactured things and human discussion generally are not considered part of nature, unless qualified as, for example, "human nature" or "the complete of nature". This more traditional concept of natural things which can be found today means a distinction between the natural and the man-made, with the artificial being understood as that which has been helped bring into being by a human awareness or a human being mind. Depending on the particular context, the term "natural" may also be recognized from the unnatural or the supernatural.
