The word nature comes from the Latin word natura, or "essential attributes, innate disposition", and in ancient times, literally designed "birth". Natura is a Latin translation of the Greek word physis (φύσις), which at first related to the intrinsic characteristics that crops, pets, and other features of the entire world develop of their own accord. The idea of nature all together, the physical universe, is one of several expansions of the initial notion; it started with certain key applications of the word φύσις by pre-Socratic philosophers, and has progressively gained currency ever since. This usage sustained during the introduction of modern clinical method in the last several centuries.

Within the many uses of the word today, "nature" often identifies geology and wildlife. Nature can make reference to the general realm of living plants and animals, and occasionally to the processes associated with inanimate objects-the way that particular types of things exist and change of their own accord, like the weather and geology of the planet earth. It is often taken to suggest the "natural environment" or wilderness-wild animals, stones, forest, and on the whole those things which may have not been greatly altered by human being treatment, or which persist despite individuals intervention. For example, manufactured things and human discussion generally aren't considered part of nature, unless qualified as, for example, "human nature" or "the whole of nature". This more traditional concept of natural things which can be found today indicates a distinction between your natural and the artificial, with the man-made being known as that which has been brought into being by the human awareness or a human being mind. Depending on the particular context, the word "natural" might also be distinguished from the unnatural or the supernatural.
